How to Get a Library Card | Non-Residents | Loan Periods | Holds or Reserves | Interlibrary Loan | Patron Record | PIN | Change of Address

Renewals
Materials may be renewed once if there are no reserves on them.
You may renew in person or through the Online Catalog with a library card:

  • Click on Renew My Materials/Review My Account.
  • Click on Review/Renew.
  • Enter Library Card # and PIN. (Your PIN is CHANGEME unless you have chosen a different one. If the PIN you enter does not work, please contact a library staff member.)
  • Click on the CHECKOUTS tab.
  • Select items to renew by clicking in check boxes to the left of title.
  • Click on Renew Selected Items.
  • Review Summary Screen.
  • Note which items renewed, then click OK.

 

How to Get a Library Card
You must be a resident of West Hartford.
You must present a valid form of identification with your name and current address (driver's license, checkbook, or cancelled mail).
Out of state students living in West Hartford may apply for a card one semester at a time with a student ID and proof of residence.

Non-Residents
Material may be borrowed with a hometown library card from another public library in Connecticut.
West Hartford residents may use their cards at any public library in Connecticut.
Borrowed materials may be returned to any Connecticut public library.

Loan Periods
Regular Fiction and Non-Fiction - 4 weeks
New Fiction - 1 week
New Non-Fiction -2 weeks
Magazines - 1 week
CD-ROM's and DVD-ROMs - 4 weeks
Audiobooks - 4 weeks
Music CD's - 2 weeks
Entertainment Videos and DVDs - 7 days
Non-fiction Videos and DVDs - 4 weeks

Holds or Reserves of Circulating Items
In person: fill out a reserve card at one of the town libraries

Electronically: 

  • Search for the item in the WHPL Catalog.
  • Select Details of the item from the search result list.
  • Select the Place Hold button on the left hand side of the screen.
  • Type Library Card # and PIN (see below).
  • Select the pickup branch.
  • Select Place Hold.

Interlibrary Loan
Materials not owned by WHPL may be requested by calling the Information Desk or filling out an ILL postcard.

Check Your Patron Record in the Online Catalog

Access the WHPL Catalog Access the West Hartford Online Catalog.

  • Select My Account at the top of the page.
  • Select Review/Renew.
  • Enter Library Card # and PIN (see below).
  • Select Display User Information.

PIN

Your PIN is automatically set at CHANGEME.
To change it to your personal PIN:

  • Select My Account at the top of the page of the Online Catalog.
  • Select User PIN Change.
  • Enter Library Card #.
  • Enter CHANGEME as your PIN in the first box.
  • Enter your new PIN twice as instructed.
  • Select Change PIN.

Changing Your Address/Phone/Email

You cannot change your library card information interactively through our website.  If you need to update your address, telephone number, or email address, please conctact the circulation department at 860-561-6960 during normal library hours.
