Use Computers at the Library (and how do I use CASSIE?)

How do I reserve a computer?

Advance reservations are not accepted for our computers.  You may add your name to a waiting list if all computers are in use when you arrive at the library.  To add your name to a waiting list, please see a staff member.

Does the Library have Microsoft Office?

Yes, the library has selected applications on some computers.

Does the Library provide access to the Internet?

Yes, patrons may use an internet accessible computer for up to 90 minutes each day. Fifteen-minute express Internet stations are also available at some branches.

Does the Library provide wireless (Wi-Fi) access to the Internet?

Yes, free wireless Internet access is available for users with their own laptop computers at each library.

How do I use CASSIE?

The West Hartford Public Library offers free access to computers and the Internet at all library branches. Because computers are so popular, we have installed software known as CASSIE that allows all computer users equal access time at each location.

Using your library card number and a password, CASSIE keeps track of the amount of time each user is on the computer, and limits users to 90 minutes of use per day.

CASSIE Manages Printing

Patrons also use CASSIE to pay for computer printouts. Black and white printing is ten cents per page and color printing (on select computers only) is 25 cents per page. CASSIE deducts these charges to your library card account.

Patrons may pay with cash or by check at the Circulation Desk when they need to add money onto their accounts. CASSIE will prevent users from printing when they do not have any money on deposit for printing.

Access CASSIE with Library Cards

Computer users must have an up to date library card to access CASSIE. Your default password is your last name. Go to the Circulation Desk if you do not have a library card.

Out of town visitors may go to the Circulation Desk for a 24-hour “Guest Pass” for access to the computers.
