What We Do

The Friends of the West Hartford Public Library is a non-profit organization founded over 30 years ago by community-minded citizens. The mission is to provide financial support to the library for initiatives not funded by the West Hartford town budget. The Friends support Library services and programs through:

Museum Passes

Programs
The Friends sponsors various programs including author talks, art presentations, classical music concerts
and children's events. The Friends also sponsor the annual Herbert Hoffman Memorial Lecture during National Library Week.

Writing Workshops
Expert-led seminars on writing novels, memoirs, children's books, screenplays, college essays and blogs

Cultural Programs
Art talks and musical performances

Museum Passes
The Museum Pass Program provides passes to area museums and attractions. The current museums are listed here. The passes are good for one day only, and may be reserved up to one month in advance.  They need to be picked up and returned the day of use to the Children's Department at the Main Library.  (Since the museums provide only one pass to us, we regret that we are unable to have the passes available at the branches.)  Please note, each museum has different numbers of adults and/or children who may be admitted.  Call 561-6980 to reserve a pass.

Note: Patrons are limited to one museum visit per day.



USED BOOK SALES and USED BOOK DONATIONS
The Friends of the West Hartford Public Library will accept donations of books, CDs, DVDs and cassette tapes on: date to be announced. Items must be brought to the intake site at: 11 Wampanoag Drive, W. H. (near Northwest Catholic High School) only on announced dates. Donations will not be accepted at library buildings.

Donation Guidelines:
• books must be in decent shape
• absolutely no mold or mold smell
• no magazines, or old text books
• no encyclopedias before 2003
