About Our E-Mail Reference Service

What It Is

West Hartford Public Library's E-mail Reference Service enables customers to ask questions online and receive answers via e-mail.

What Kinds of Questions We Answer

We can only answer brief factual questions. We may also direct you to sources, such as Web pages or print material, where you will find information on your topic.

If your question is in-depth or complicated, you can call or visit us during library hours.  A reference librarian will be happy to assist you.

Additionally, please note our Online Databases available to WHPL cardholders and our Internet Guide of selected links.

Who Answers Your Questions

The librarians of the West Hartford Main Library Reference Division will receive and answer your questions.

When To Expect a Response

Upon receipt of your question, you will receive e-mail verifying that your question has been submitted. The minimum turnaround time is 24 hours (Monday to Friday). If you need an answer by a certain date, please be sure to specify this on the question form.

What Our Service Does Not Provide

  • We do not fax or send material at this time.
  • We do not search the Library's catalog, or reserve or renew materials.  For these services, please use our online catalog.
