Amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the West Hartford Libraries wanted to supply you with the most up-to-date information regarding food programs in the West Hartford area.

West Hartford Public Schools Food Programs

The U.S. Department of Agriculture partners in local communities to serve free Grab and Go bagged meals. It’s food that’s in, while school is out. There are no income requirements, and any student of the West Hartford Public Schools (WHPS) may enjoy a bagged breakfast and/or lunch.

     Free produce and other food items are distributed in bags at Foodshare sites:  

    Rentschler Field, 615 Silver Lane, East Hartford
    Drive-Thru ProcessMonday through Friday from 8:30AM - 12:00PM  (Gates close at noon) In order to serve everyone, Foodshare will be providing one distribution of food per car per day.     Location: Hands on Hartford, 55 Bartholomew Avenue, off of Park Street, two blocks west of Pope Park; in Hartford (former Spaghetti Warehouse).
    They are offering:
    ·        Meals to go;
    ·        Toiletry items, Rain poncho, & snacks for all;
    ·        Bus passes available in case of bad weather; and
    ·        Limited outdoor seating will be available.

    Hello Bloomfield, Windsor and West Hartford HAT Members, A quick reminder about the Mayors United Community Food Distribution is taking place each Friday in October at Rehoboth Church of God.

    Please share this information and attached flyer with your neighbors and networks throughout all three (3) communities of Windsor, West Hartford and Bloomfield.

    These events are part of the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box program which is being hosted by:
    Mayor Suzette DeBeatham-Brown of Bloomfield,
    Mayor Shari Cantor of West Hartford, and
    Mayor Donald Trinks of Windsor

    One box of food will be provided per family and face masks are required along with maintaining social distancing.

    Next 2 Fridays, October 23rd and 30th

    Town Hall Food Pantry operations will continue. Food will be distributed outside of Town Hall (50 S. Main St.) in front of the lobby entrance (across from the flag pole) only at the times below.  
    Curbside Food Pantry distribution operations are:   
    • Tuesday: 3:30PM - 5:30PM    
    Wednesday: 9:00AM - 11AM   
    Friday: 10AM - 12PM   
    Food donations to the Town Hall Food Pantry will be accepted only at the times above.

    St. Thomas the Apostle Church Food Pantry
    • Schedule: Fridays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Location: 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford  
    (The day the food pantry is open may vary from week to week.)  
    Open one day per week, and available to any CT resident who meets the Federal Emergency Food Assistance Program guidelines. Volunteers will be working at least 6 feet apart, unless they're from the same household. Masks and gloves will be available for our volunteers.
