The Kindness Project
January 12 – February 6, 2026
“We carry with us, as human beings, not just the capacity to be kind, but the very choice of kindness.” – Wonder by R.J. Palacio
The West Hartford Public Library’s Annual Kindness Project, now in its ninth year, is inspired by the book Wonder by R. J. Palacio and its message of compassion and kindness towards others. Over a 4-week period, we collect donations at all library locations to benefit the West Hartford Food Pantry and Fern Street Universalist Church Backpack Program, at which point they are distributed to community members in need.

About the Kindness Project

Over a 4-week period, the West Hartford community came together to collect over 3,000 items! We have continued this celebration every year since.
