Summer Reading isn’t just for kids anymore. Read, track your books, and use the library to earn special pin-back buttons and the chance to win prizes!
How to Participate
- Sign up in person at any WHPL Information Desk and get an “Escape into a Story” tote bag! (while supplies last)
- Can’t make it to the library? Sign up online! (online registrants will not receive a tote bag)
- Pick up a Summer Reading tracker at any WHPL location or download a copy here.
- Pick and choose from 30 reading prompts or activities.* Complete one or complete them all!
- Report your progress at any WHPL Information Desk or enter your completed books and activities online.
- You will earn a pin-back button every time you complete a path, which you can pick up at any WHPL Information Desk at any time. Proudly display the buttons you’ve earned and be the envy of West Hartford!
- Each book or activity you complete is a chance to win one of our bi-weekly prizes and grand prizes at the end of the summer!
*This year one of the activities on the tracker is “Write Your Reading Profile”. A reading profile is a list of traits that makes you more likely to pick the book up or appreciate it. It could be a particular setting or time period, it could be aspects of a character, or stylistic features of the book. For example, you could especially love books set in France or books with likeable characters or unreliable narrators. If nothing comes to mind, you could make a list of your recent favorite books and see if they have anything in common. If they don’t, maybe your reading profile is just that you have very eclectic taste!
